Sevastopol is first of all  historical city
In the center of the city there are monuments to admirals
Nakhimov, Lazarev, Kornilov and Istomin. Not far from the city center there
is a Museum of heroic defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855 (Panorama) and
Malakhov Hill, and the Museum Complex of Diorama devoted to the second
defense of the hero-city in 1941-1942.
Famous Hersoness Tavrichesky is an ancient historic landmark. It is a
city-state which was founded in V century BC. This ancient town is
considered to be the cradle of Christianity as Prince Vladimir of Kiev was
baptized right there in 989 AD. Several medieval cave towns’ fortresses can
be visited in the environs of Sevastopol. The city has a lot of churches and
churches-monuments devoted to the Crimean War. Each centimeter of Sevastopol
	land is impregnated with history.
In the past few years Sevastopol has become a large tourist attraction on
the Black Sea coastline. New hotels, leisure centers, casinos, bars, fine
restaurants, bars have been being built. There is a good reason for all that.
Sevastopol is located on the south west coast of the Black Sea, which means
there are wonderful beaches, air, good for health, a lot of sun and warm sea.
All these make it a perfect holiday destination. Moreover, Sevastopol is a
unique historical centre of the Crimea. Its heroic history has been kept
beyond the reach of tourists for a long time.

				Monument to the Scuttled Ships

is the most famous monument of Sevastopol. It is a hallmark of
the city. English and French Fleets, reached Sevastopol in
				September 1854,

				was
far stronger and much more equipped than the Black Sea Fleet. In
order not to let them get in the harbour seven ships were
scuttled across the fairway, and in February 1855 there were six
more ships. While leaving the Southern Side in August
(September) 1855  Russian troops had to scuttle all the rest of
				the ships.    |
